Of the 800 plus photos i took from the Hiroshima and Kyoto trip a while back i found a few nature and wildlife ones i was quite happy with.
This bird was in a stream near Gion City in Kyoto.
Click each image to see larger size and better quality.
There were plenty of trees flowering in the grounds of Nijojo Castle in Kyoto.
The flower beds in the Peace Park at Hiroshima were spectacular.
Deer on Miyajima Island.
Cherry Blossom trees on Miyajima.
Deer with antlers removed.
Miyajima was full over blossoms.
The grounds of Nijojo Castle.
A stream running through Gion City in Kyoto.
Another bird in the freezing water.
One of my favourite shots of the trip, again from the grounds of Nijojo Castle.
Like i said earlier, all images are full size and much better quality on flickr.

i really like the bird shots
The photo with sakura, hillside and steps is almost like a painting; beautiful shots!
The deer’s antlers aren’t removed, they fall off in the Winter so they can grow new bigger ones in the spring.
They all looked pretty manufactured to me, all exactly the same length and capped off nicely …. but then again, i’m no wildlife expert.
Those were probably the new “RoboDeer” from Toshiba.
and..I thought we were talking about Dean Martin’s kinda “Wildlife”, he he,eh..36-23-36..oh, well, I led the pics, just the same! Thanks..
liked..liked..not led…my browser is on the fritz, again!! sorry guys!!
Very nice work, Neil. Get that circular polarizer yet?
No, on the ‘to do list’ …. hopefully this week.
I love going to Kyoto and now I have to go around the time you did. The pics were amazing. I took my father to the castle and he was so amazed by it. He has been in the construction business all his life and never saw such craftsmanship.
Very very nice… I especially like the blossomy trees.
Nice photos! The birds are Grey Herons (Aosagi), a relatively common bird in Japanese rivers and streams. Also common are Small Egrets (Kosagi), a smaller, all-white bird with trademark yellow feet (its legs are black, and relatives have all-black legs and feet). For examples of both: http://blogd.com/wp/index.php/archives/1347.
Cheers for the info on the bird species.
THat looks like a beautiful place. I am headed to Miyako-jima this weekend, woohoo!
beautiful photos neil
Cheers Matt.
Great photos! I have yet to get a good shot of a crane. They always fly away before I can get close enough. I guess I need a better zoom.
Yeh these ones were very “people friendly” and stayed put amongst lots of activity.
