The title of the post says it all, for more information you can visit the official site here but it should be pretty self explanatory, if not here’s the skinny … people who write online in someway shape or form are encouraged to cover the same topic on the same day thus raising awareness.
At the end of the day there are several ways people can assist charities, the main ones being volunteering and cash. I’ve been too busy to volunteer in the past so about 7 years ago i chose the cash option and started sponsoring a young fella through World Vision. Once i did the maths and worked out how much money i was spending on grog and smokes each week it was a pretty easy decision for me to redirect a small amount of it to a worthwhile cause.
Young Ernie from Tanzania was 5 when i started sponsoring him and now he’s 12. I get 1 or 2 updates each year and usually 1 of them contains a photo. Unfortunately the photos from the early years are in storage in Australia, but here’s the latest.
Update: Apparently it’s against World Visions T&C’s so i had to give Ernie a little make-over.

I generally shy away from discussing topics like supporting charities, politics and most definitely religion because opinions are like assholes, we all have one.
If you have anything negative to say about giving money to charity or World Vision specifically please don’t bother.
On the other hand if you can spare a few bucks then please consider directing it to those less fortunate than yourself, you never know, one day you might fall on hard times and be in the need of a leg up yourself.

It’s amazing that there will always be negative assholes out there that necessitate blog disclaimers like “If you have anything negative to say about giving money to charity or World Vision specifically please don’t bother.”
At any rate and on a more positive note I think it’s kickass that you’re working with World Vision and, just because I actually do have a big heart for this kind of thing when I’m not running around being a self-absorbed brat, I’m going to post something proactive/poverty related later in the afternoon.
It will be after the bitter and resentful post I have already put out for today, but whatevs.
I should add, that i don’t expect anyone that regularly reads and comments here to say such a thing, not by any stretch, more-so the angry little man that juts stops by and wants to bait people or bash charity organisations etc …
Look forward to reading your stuff later today.
This is a great thing to do and I applaud you for doing it. Honestly, if people would give a fraction out of their lottery ticket, beer, or starbuck spending to the less fortunate…the world would be a lot happier. You know, I think I’m going to do something like this too.
Good for you, my thoughts exactly.
Kudos…
The way the AU is at the moment it’s costing less than 80 cents per day too
You’re an excellent man, Neil. Rock on.
