Canon IXY Digital 1000 Competition – Winner

December 11, 2007 · 26 comments

Towards the end of last month i made a spur of the moment decision to buy a new Canon Camera. This left me with the issue, “What do i do with my existing camera?” ….. hold a competition of course.

What are the benefits / reasons behind me holding a competition?  There were 2 main reasons;

1: New Readers – the competition was a good way to draw new readers to my blog by getting the message out through other blogs.

2: Existing Readers – keep those people that come back and visit my blog regularly interested and encourage them to become regular commentators.

The result of all this was a very positive one. I had a total of 302 entries in to the draw for the Camera. I sold some ad space, i had a good increase in subscribers to the blog and a few key rankings within the blogging domain rose favourably, namely my Alexa Ranking and also my Technorati Ranking

Canon IXY Digital 1000

Will i hold another competition again in the future? You bet i will, in my opinion, and now experience, it’s a much better return on investment for your advertising dollar than a once off review from another site. When will i hold another competition, i don’t know, i would definitly suggest in the not too distant future or at the VERY least, the same time next year when the new Canon Camera is out and i need to upgrade.

All that’s good and well from my point of view but the bit you’re interested in is who won the camera. The 302 entries were plugged in to Random.org and the randomized result saw … “Mike from No APR Credit” come up the lucky winner. Congratulations Mike i’ll be in touch shortly to arrange delivery!

Thanks to all those who subscribed and who blogged about the competition, i appreciate it and hope you’ll be part of the next competition!

So what’s the next competition going to be? Free T-Shirt with your domain name on it?
(I’d be in for that!)

See how much dumb we are, we are enthusiastically participating in his competition which he is running to give away his “SECOND HAND” house hold things. Should I say Nice Win Mike???

Shanker, might want to proof read your comments if you are going to have a crack at people. I’m sure Mike will be well happy with a near new 10 megapixel camera. Plus Neil has to pay shipping. I think Neil deserves applause not criticism. I guess in the future you won’t be applying for any more competitions unless it’s brand new gear.

I was going to run a competition for my 2nd hand Dell M90. 2.16ghz, 4 gig ram, NVIDIA FX2500 512meg graphics, all the bells and whistles. As it was a company write down it has basically zero value and I thought it would have attracted a nice amount of hits. But as Shanker points out guess nobody would be interested in “SECOND HAND” house hold things…… so I might as well just shelve it in the cupboard or dump it in the trash….

I do not understand why somebody has a problem with the prize being second hand … especially when Neil was open about it from the very beginning… There are people buying and selling second hand things, what’s wrong about giving one away … Perhaps some people are jealous they did not come up with the idea first :-)

Neither do i, i thought it was clear from the beginning but obviously not. Like you say, i could have sold it for $300ish so what`s the big deal.

Hi Neil,

I got my camera on Wednesday via EMS. (EMS is the fastest way to send any package internationally). The shipping fee was a pretty penny. More importantly, the camera was in excellent condition! Thank You.

Wishing Neil and Neil’s readers a warm and happy holidays! Good luck in 2008.
