The other night i was watching Discovery, or what i’m now referring to as the “repeat channel”, and i saw the epside from How Do They Do IT on the Worlds Largest HDTV ….. and unbeknown to me, i’ve actually watched it … on 4 seperate occasions infact.

The Worlds Largest HDTV is located at none other than the Tokyo Racetrack. Now me being a mad keen punter i’ve been out to the track the last 2 years for the Japan Dirt Cup and then the Japan Cup, held in November each year, so i’ve seen it without knowing.

The screen employs Mitsubishi’s Aurora Vision LED technology and measures 11.2 meters (37 feet) x 66.4 meters (218 feet), giving it a surface area of 744 square meters (8,000+ square feet), or the equivalent of 3 tennis courts.

Mitsubishi manufactured the screen for the Japan Racing Association (JRA) at its Nagasaki factory in the town of Togitsu, Nagasaki prefecture. The screen was divided into 35 pieces for delivery to the Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu, Tokyo.

Here’s a few pictures i guess i inadvertently took of the Worlds Largest Television.

Worlds Largest Television

The first was taken at the Tokyo Dirt Cup on the Saturday in November 2006.

And the 2 below were taken last year at the Tokyo Cup on the Sunday.

Canon IXY Digital Camera Winner

A little over a month ago i started a 2nd competition, this time giving away a Canon IXY Digital L4 Camera to one lucky recipient.

The purpose of the competition was to help launch Japan Singles and i can say in the first month it’s going very nicely with over 220 people signing up in February alone, i hope these numbers continue in the months to come.

The competition has been run and won and with the help or random.org i’m happy to announce the winner.

I`d seen this new gadget pop up in a few places but never really knew what it actually did. After a little research the Rolly looks like a pretty neat portable music player with the added visual tricks it can perform.

You can get your music in to the Rolly via USB, the software needed is currently Windows only so Mac users will need an emulator … or use a Windows machine. At this stage the Sonic Stage Software only runs on a Japanese OS, great for me but not so good for many, so you`ll need to get a Region Free version of it if you want to run on any version of Windows.

For a great review from a first hand owner of the Rolly stop over to Danny Choo`s Rolly Review, he was lucky enough t get a freebie to test and he`s a big fan of it.

Sony Rolly

There`s more and more videos popping up on You Tube and you can go straight here to Sony for all the technical specs on the Rolly.

The Rolly is shaping up to be a great prize for an upcoming contest i`m working on.

The iPhone has taken the world by storm and the the next country to have a rumored release is Japan, and sources there say that Docomo will likely be the company to release the Gadget of the Year here in Japan.

Two of the biggest players in Japan are in talks with Steve Jobs, both NTT Docomo and Softbank Mobile. While there’s little doubt Docomo is favourite - 53 million customers to Softbank’s 17 million - the smaller firm could yet pull a fast one by getting into a revenue share deal with Apple.

Wherever the iPhone ends up in Japan, it means one thing - it has to be a 3G model, as there simply is no GSM network in the country.

I for one will be upgrading as soon as i can, from what i’ve seen the iPhone is brilliant and everything a cellphone junkie could ask for. Maybe there’ll be an announcement at the upcoming Macworld , Jan 14 - 18.
