Cherry Blossom Forecast 2009

Updated April 1st – Looks like they’ll be blossoming early this year in Tokyo.

It’s almost upon us, the 2009 Cherry Blossom Season and of course the Cherry Blossom Forecast that is, and every god damn blog that has anything at all to do about Japan will make mention of it …. multiple times too no doubt, myself included.

Thanks to Evan for the map via Tenki.

The Cherry Blossom Season signifies a few great things about Japan.  One of my favorites being the license to go and get on the sauce at places like Yoyogi Park on a Saturday afternoon, sitting under one of the many Cherry Blossom trees … admiring the view … and what a sweet sweet view it is.

Japanese Girl

I’m still waiting for the official forecast  from Sakura Zensen but if i were a betting many i’d say the last week in March i’ll be out and about with my new camera enjoying the view in Yoyogi Park.

I’ll update this post when the 2009 Cherry Blossom forcast is ready … here’s the 2008 forecast for reference.

Picture looks strange. Can a person stand like that? Legs look wobbly.

It’s called the “Naive Cute Pose” …. best done by girls in their early 20’s … ;)

I hear you, man. My frame should never be squarely on top my legs while sitting. It just isn’t right.

I know what you mean. Relatives have been talking about visiting for the Cherry Blossom for months now. A beautiful sight, im sure, but i’d rather not tag along for just that.

So is the map showing when peak time should be?

Reply

I guess you could say that, the dates represent the expected days when they will be in full bloom. Just updated it with new a new map today.

Nice site too by the way, will check out some more of your work shortly.

Oh man, that’s just too perfect.

Thanks for the words. It’s in dire need of an update but that only happens when I need a new job so it’s not such a bad thing.

Ok, yes, there will be a fuck of a lot of I-don’t-have-time-to-read-this cherry blossom posts on people’s blogs everywhere. There should be a blog law, if you post about cherry blossoms using some random photos you clipped off the web and not your own, you get a gang of 20-something, squeaky-voiced J-girls sent to your house to beat the shit out of you with Louis Vuitton bags stuffed full of keitais and make-up accessories.

I’ve decided, upon reading your post, Neil, that I’m going to host a “Best Pics of Cherry Blossom Season – 2009″ at my site. All readers need to do is submit links to their blog posts, and I’ll feature their best photos with credits and linkbacks.

Nice work Billy, great idea.

“you get a gang of 20-something, squeaky-voiced J-girls sent to your house to beat the shit out of you with Louis Vuitton bags stuffed full of keitais and make-up accessories” is there any baby oil involved?
