Snowboarding Japan - Gala Yuzawa Bento Box Face Food Say it with Giri-Choco Harajuku Bridge To Yoyogi Park Sasebo Burger - Best Hamburger in Japan

Since writing a few updates on this years Cherry Blossom Forecast and Cherry Blossom Viewing i’ve had several requests from people asking for high quality and close up images so they can refer to them when they get a Cherry Blossom Tattoo.

I had never realised the popularity of a Cherry Blossom Tattoo a few weeks ago, but from what i can see they’re an ever increasing design for specifically ladies wanting a tattoo, i guess the popularity Pegasus had 20 yrs ago has wained somewhat. I’ve managed to dig up a few CC images from around the place and will make a special effort over the next few weeks to take some close ups images and make available to anyone wanting them.

Disclaimer: i’m not even positive all images below are Cherry Blossoms so before you get your Cherry Blossom Tattoo please confirm with an expert!

Cherry Blossom Tattoos - What Do They Mean

Cherry Blossom Tattoos are some of the most popular tattoo designs for women currently. The beauty and delicate nature of a cherry blossom can’t be denied.

In both Japanese and Chinese cultures the cherry blossom is full of symbolic meaning and significance. Before deciding to get a cherry blossom tattoo design it makes sense to understand the symbolism and deep cultural connections and meaning that this tattoo might hold. After all the best tattoo designs are ones that hold a great deal of symbolic significance.

Typically the tattoo that is universally regretted is the one that was gotten while out with a bunch of Friends just because they were getting one. So don’t fall into the trap and regret your tattoo later in life. Instead if you are planning on getting a tattoo at least take the time to research the symbolism and meaning behind it and see if it speaks to you and if the ideas are significant in your life.

While many people tend to blend and confuse the Japanese and Chinese culture together from lack of knowledge the two are very different in many ways. Therefore the meaning and symbolism that the cherry blossom holds is different in each culture. Souce; Chris Ryerson

Varieties

The most popular variety of sakura in Japan is the Somei Yoshino. Its flowers are nearly pure white, tinged with the palest pink, especially near the stem. They bloom and usually fall (or “scatter,” 散る chiru) within a week, before the leaves come out. Therefore, the trees look nearly white from top to bottom.

The variety takes its name from the village of Somei (now part of Toshima in Tokyo). It was developed in the mid- to late-19th century at the end of the Edo period and the beginning of the Meiji period. The Somei Yoshino is so widely associated with cherry blossoms that jidaigeki and other works of fiction often depict the variety in the Edo period or earlier; such depictions are anachronisms.

Winter sakura (fuyuzakura/Prunus subhirtella Autumnalis) begins to bloom in the fall and continues blooming sporadically throughout the winter. It is said to be a cross between Tokyo Higan cherry (edohiganzakura/P. incisa) and Mamezakura/P. pendula.

Other categories include yamazakura, yaezakura, and shidarezakura. The yaezakura have large flowers, thick with rich pink petals. The shidarezakura, or weeping cherry, has branches that fall like those of a weeping willow, bearing cascades of pink flowers.
