As another Christmas quickly approaches us there’s no chance it’s going to slip by unnoticed in Japan, everyone seems to get in on the Christmas spirit … or commercial spirit depending on which way you look at it.
Like anywhere in the world Santa comes in all shapes and Japan has its fair share of variations and i had a bit of a gander through flickr to find some examples.
Ginza Santa.

Santa busting out the all too familiar peace sign, something very synonymous with life in Japan like a mentioned here.
Nampa Santa.

Master Santa.

Free Hugs Santa. I’m sure this is the same guy.

Diving Santa.

Extremely poorly made Santa.

Retro Santa.

Colonel Santa.

A Nagoya Santa.

Tai Chi Santa.

Unfortunately in Japan, Christmas is a working day so it will go pretty much unnoticed by me this year, unlike last year where i went home to Australia and caught up with the family.

I’ll be spending it here on the job too.
But I won’t spend it taking sidelong glances at my friend’s genitals like the guy in that last pic.
Hahahaha, not even Kewpie??!!
Yeah, Christmas here is a fucking travesty. I mean, two solid months of sales and hype just so must people can go ground out a working day. The Japanese government along with all the department stores that partake in the gross over-commercialization of Christmas here can kiss Santa’s ass.
“…so must people can go ground out a working day…”
Sorry for the typos… “must” should be “most” and “ground” should be “grind.”
Well said Billy ….. i danced around it but you`re right, all the hype and bullshit and then the day passes like any other working day. Don`t even start me on what passes as christmas lunch here, not the KFC, but the attempt at cooking a traditional lunch falls WELL short of the mark.
Tai Chi Santa made me throw up a little in my mouth -_-
i hate Christmas. never did probably never will. i have not idea why people are so happy about the whole thing.
i mean i will probably never get to like the whole thing.
We`ve never really been big on it at our place, not compared to some Friends and the way they cart around all over the countryside visiting long lost relatives blah blah blah …
yeah i know what you mean….having to see relatives, especially the ones you really hate, i mean i have the ones that you just wanna cut off their balls, with a spoon, and make key chains out of em. well this year is gonna be really interesting, spending it with the gf’s relatives. there better be some booze at that place, or i am gonna shoot them on general principle.
Booze will always help, eat heaps, drink even more and fall asleep early.
Damn..
You sound like a buncha laughs. Maybe one of your Gf’s relatives can shoot you and put you out of your misery.
Tai chi Santa is just “spreading good cheer!” NOT.
I coulda done without Mr “Tai-chi”
Oh well..
Live and let live (a.k.a. Holiday spirit)
wow, maybe theres no such thing as santa, but we know theres a grinch now!
Japan seems like a VERY festive place and you probably won’t see much of it in other parts of the world. I mean come on, even KFC?!?!
