I have to admit, my favorite restaurant in Japan is a little Japanese-style diner in Yokohama called "Tora Hige" that caters mostly to college students and blue-collar types. The portions are satisfying and the food tastes awesome.

yeh, they pretty much do me, although i snack later at night and a few beers always fills me up too. :) ... I must admit there's been a few times in the last few weeks where i've had 2 dinners in the one night, this place for a quick and cheap feed then straight to sushi for the taste. Sushi doesn't fill me up and rather than drop 50 there i go there with some food in my belly first.

I'm a fan of potato salad myself. Are those dishes usually able to fill you up?
