Furukawa Hanabi Party

August 6, 2008 · 6 comments

Saturday saw me head out to Furukawa for a Hanabi Party. Furukawa is an hour from Shinjuku on the Shonen Shinjuku line and heading out there i once again thought to myself, i’m glad i live closer to the action.

It’s good to have a reason like this years Hanabi Party to get out to Furukawa, otherwise it’s a place i can probably say i would never get to otherwise.

As usual i went with the same group or Friends i go to the onsens with, all the guys from the local Sushi bar. It was a late afternoon start and an hour long train ride to get to Koge station and then grab some supplies and head to our designated spot.

I grabbed some footage and put it up on Vimeo and also took few photos. I’m still a novice with the camera and not editing it yet but will do shortly when i get some appropriate software or buy a mac.

Before i get into the pics if you haven’t already voted, please head over to the Seven Wonders of Japan and cast your vote now, it closes at the end of this week.

There was plenty of colour on arrival.

The video turned out really well. This time i used the Fireworks setting and remembered to have the resolution scaled back a bit. For the best effect check out the HD version on Vimeo.

Like i said, it’s still pretty rough but sometime soon i’ll be able to put a soundtrack to it and edit the crappy bits out. I took about 1Gb of footage and this one turn out to be the best of the raw versions.

The other punters have set up shop and are having a few drinks waiting for sun down.

I won’t dwell on our spot too much but the decision to camp on a 30 degree angle wasn’t mine, it got harder to hold your ground but less frustrating after a few beers though.

The angle might not seem that steep, but it was.

While it was daylight there were still many empty spots, by the time it was dark the whole area was chockers.

I really only took video of the fireworks but must have taken this shot by accident.

The back to the station around 9.30 ready to head home, a little tired and a little worse for ware. Early night planned though, the next day i was heading to Kamogawa Beach for a 21st birthday, more on that soon.

Nice vid, Neil!

I haven’t been to a hanabi taikai this season yet, but hope to make the Tamagawa one on the 16th of this month.

I’m looking forward to being able to edit a few Billy, some of the others i took had a few great segments in them but the rest was shite so this one was really the only complete one that goes alright.

Wow, that looks like it was fun. Can’t wait to be able to go to Japan and attend a Hanabi festival. It’s always something you see glorified in Anime and such but I’m sure it really is quite fun.

Oh, by the way, would you like to exchange blogroll links? I’ll go ahead and add you, let me know. :p

The fireworks reminds me to New Year party. In my city usually we have fireworks party for the new year.
