Our software us certified to run on certain OS, Windows, HPUX ..... and requires specific graphics cards etc ..... if i differ from the certification then i'm not reflecting a true working environment and bug verification isn't accurate. Standardisation is massive across our company ..... needs to be with the volume of employees (450,000) I don't know the ins and outs of the RAM but there are ways of increasing the virtual memory to get 3Gb out of it with some tweaking. These machines are spec'd for our use by people that know a whole lot more about it than me so i just run with it. Also we have a pretty big deal with Dell as a supplier so the discounts are hefty. Sort of against the rules ….
