I live by a few simple mantra`s and one of those is `Cold Day Hot Food` and today was no exception. As we come to the end of Autumn in Japan were lucky to get days much over 15 degrees, the nights are getting pretty cold, winter is just around the corner.
So after a morning up the shops it`s hard to go past one of my favourite Ramen shops, 5 minutes walk from home, Hinoki Ramen. As a creature of habit i`ve only ever tried the one bowl off the menu, if you`re on a good thing then stick with it i guess. Anyone who loves a good bowl of Ramen will appreciate how good it really can be and believe me the Kare Ramen sure is good.
For a little over $10 for the bowl of Ramen and a tallie of beer it`s hard to go past Ramen as a cheap and healthy meal whether it`s for breakfast lunch or dinner. As we trapidly slide into winter in Japan i expect i`ll be back on the prowl around Tokyo looking for new Ramen shops to try.
Shinjuku is the next suburb over from mine, Yoyogi and is home to the businest train station in the world, it was reported over 4 million people going through there each day back in 2005 … must be a few more than that now.
According to wikipedia …..
Shinjuku (新宿区 Shinjuku-ku?) is one of the 23 special wards of Tokyo, Japan. It is a major commercial and administrative centre, housing the busiest train station in the world (Shinjuku Station), and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, the administration center for the Tokyo Metropolis.
The area around Shinjuku Station is home to a large concentration of department stores, specialist electronic and camera shops, cinemas, restaurants and bars. Many international hotels have a large presence here.
As of 2005, the ward has an estimated population of 305,352 and a density of 16,710 persons per km². The total area is 18.23 km². [citation needed]
Shinjuku has the highest numbers of registered foreign nationals of any community in Tokyo. As of October 1, 2005, 29,353 people with 107 nationalities were registered in Shinjuku.

Possibly one of the best things about Japan for me Leo is the food … contrary to many peoples perception, it`s not all rice and sushi in Japan.

$10 for a bowl of ramen and beer…hmmm, seems kind of good for the price. When you mention $10, are you talking in USD wise?
Ramen here in Southern California is about $7/bowl at a classy japanese restaurant, but can also range from $4-6 at smaller places. With beer, it seems like you’re getting the better part of the bargain
