Japanese Shirt Folding is new to me, but apparently it’s a well known thing within the clothing circles.
Not that i have a great need to fold shirts in record time, but having seen this i felt compelled to give it ago and also to capture it and post it to Vimeo.
I’d be lying if i said that was the only reason, I also wanted to test out the remote control for the camera and the tripod i bought from Yodobashi so several boxes ticked in one go.
After a few attempts i was able to record this successful fold using the Japanese Shirt Folding technique. Could do with a bit more refining but Japanese Shirt Folding isn’t in the Olympics yet so i don’t need to perfect it …. but i’m sure you get the idea.

If you couldn’t follow the video and you’re still reading this then here’s the instructions.
Grab both layers of fabric in the middle with your right hand. With your left hand grab the should and pass it over your right hand to the bottom of the shirt.
Then, lastly it’s a matter of pulling the original right hand through the left and there you have it, the Japanese Shirt Folding technique in less then 10 seconds.
Update: Seems i might have done it a bit quick the first time round so i’ve recorded a few more video’s one a bit slower and then one in slow motion, just because i wanted to test out the funtion on my Sanyo Xacti 1010 camera.

And now lastly is the Slow Motion version of the Japanese Shirt Folding technique, if this is still too fast there’s nothing else i can do!

All clips are hosted on Vimeo along with the other movies i’ve taken to date.

WOW! Had to watch five times and read the directions beneath to catch on to what he was doing, but this has me rethinking my current shirt weirdness. I roll my smaller tees and tanks that I normally wear to fit the pockets of a plastic over-door shoe rack. This looks more fun.
Thanks for the tip Rico Suave!
Glad you noticed that Mike, it’s a fave of mine! Just recorded a few more, this time slower and in slow motion ….. yes, i’m a bit bored today before the live Olympics starts!
Too bad most people wouldn’t pick up on it in Japan! Oh well at least the foreigners will. Thanks for posting the slow motion version!
Thanks, Neil.
Now, if I could just find enough flat, empty space in my apartment…
haha, good one Billy!
Wow, origami for clothes.
You MUST be bored
Surely you got a “panty shot” or 2 layin’ around just begging to be posted??
***Sits and waits***
you’ve got a great camera
Great to see the Rico Suave T is still getting a run mate. If only that thing could talk…there would be a few stories in there.
Doesn’t get a run much these days mate, the physique isn’t built for it at the moment. Agreed, it’s had a fair run though over the years!
Interesting…I have heard about origami but just now known about Japanese shirt folding.
