This weeks snowboarding adventure saw me take on some new territory, Kagura Ski Resort in the Yuzawa region.
Kagura is bigger and badder than the other mountains i`ve been to so far and today i have the soreness to prove it.
It`s always a great view when you get to the peak ready to get stuck into it.

You can get to Kagura by taxi or bus after arriving at the Echigo-Yuzawa station courtesy of the Shinkansen from Tokyo.

The mountain can be accessed by either the Mitsumata station or the Tashiro station, some 7 kilometers apart by car and access to both once you`re on the mountain is easy.

Snowboarding in Japan is massively popular with the 20 something crowd, guys and girls alike.

I`ve been giving Niigata a good workout and now it`s time to venture elsewhere and have a look at Nagano.
Suggestions for boarding in Nagano are not only welcome, they`re encouraged … The only condition being it must be accessed by the Shinkansen … i`m not into buses.
Where should i go in Nagano??

Love the ears on the knit cap haha. Wish i could give you advice, but it’s always been on my to-do list to ski anywhere in Japan.
A good buddy of mine bought that cap from South America a few years back … and luckily i inherited it on a skit trip in Australia and subsequently bought it to Japan.
Absolutely love the first pic. Only ND could both a bit silly and like a tough badass in the same photo.
Yep, more silliness than badass though i’m afraid.
There’s Hakuba, or Shiga-Kogen, both up in Nagano – Shinkansen, *followed* by 45 mins on the bus (I’m not sure if that violates the no-bus ethos, though). If there’s a few of you, hire a car – it’ll be cheaper, and doesn’t take that much longer if you keep the hammer down…
Thanks for the heads up Chris. I totally expect there to be a bus at the other end …. not sure 45 mins works for me but if that’s what it needs to be then so be it. Car is out of the question, only going to be 2 of us and we both like a beer around 2pm.
I hear you on the beer issue…
There’s also Myoko and Togakushi, similar distances from Nagano as Hakuba and Shiga. Myoko’s seems pretty busy, whereas Togakushi is a bit quieter – I haven’t skied either, but both are well-known..
I did a bit of sniffing about and it seems like the 40 > 60 mins bus ride at the other end is unavoidable if i want to check out those areas …. which is fine, will just need to factor than in for start and finish times. Appreciate the tips on places Chris.
I wondered where the hat came from! You look like a proper little snow bunny!
Except that i’m not a girl … the term snow bunny refers to girls only and we’ll keep it that way!
At Hakuba, if you take the intermediate level gondola to the top there’s a McD’s that sells beer and fries. I think it’s set #8. The best! McBeer and Fries!
Hahaha, set number 8, that’s hilarious that you know the set number! By the way, Juicy Chicken is #7 and Quarter Pounder is #3
My friend from Spain told me they also sold beer in Mcds in Spain. I’m guessing it’s not an option for the kid’s meal.
