Lest We Forget
Nov 11th, 2007 by Neil
Living away from Australia, and especially living in a country where Australia rarely features in the media, it can become easy to forget significant days from home.
Today, November 11 is a significant day in Australian and in Commonwealth history, a day we remember those that sacrificed so much so long ago. The older i get the more passionate i become, in paying my respect, for those that didn`t get the chance to live a life as full as I am now.
Ode of Remembrance
-
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
-
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
-
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
-
They fell with their faces to the foe.
-
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
-
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
-
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
-
We will remember them.

Let’s all have a moment of silence…

I was saddened to learn that the Day of Remembrance is not celebrated in Germany (or in Japan) … it should be, because their young men and women died fighting a needless war, especially in World War 1… We should all be reminded of the futility of war, victors and losers lest we be faced with the prospect of doing it all over again. Thanks for reminding us all.
Kenneth
I didn`t know about Germany but you`re correct, there was no reference of it here.
