McHotDog Classic

March 2, 2009 · 34 comments

Friday morning dawns the beginning of a new menu item at the Golden Arches, the McHotDog Classic and I for one will turn a blind eye to my new low cholesterol diet and see whether this bad boy tastes as good as it looks.

McHotDog Classic

I can assure you now it won’t but it’s still something i need to sample for myself … photos due on Friday.

I don’t go to McD’s all that often, but I remember they were offering a breakfast hot dog back in the day (10 or so years ago) as well, but I think they called it the McFrank or something.

Also, mate … I think something’s awry with the “Similar posts to this one function” on your blog; how the heck is your entry on the Reverse Kanga related to this one? :) Unless you mentioned the word “weiner” in it somewhere. I can’t stop giggling…

Argh! Are you serious? What IS that yellow stuff? Please tell me it’s not egg.

I’m hoping it’s mustard Liv, I didn’t even consider it could be Egg!

Sorry Neil, it is an egg. They used to sell them years ago, and that’s what it was back then :-)

Either way i’m getting one! I guess if it were in the lunch menu it would have a better chance of being mustard.

This is supposed to be a breakfast item so I wouldn’t be too surprised if that was the case.

looks nasty :S

Agreed. Mixing egg with hot dog doesn’t seem like it would taste good.

I thought it might have been sauerkraut…but that would be wishful thinking

Wishful thinking indeed. Maybe in a country a little further to the west of Japan.

I thought the Burgers arch enemy was the hot dog? Thank god for McD’s. I don’t care what i have for lunch or dinner but i have to have Eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and roll or bagel for breakfast.. a gallon of coffee

Do they have the McGriddle in your parts Jay? Terrible bloody thing they are ….. normal Bacon and Egg or Sausage and Egg are OK though.

We had them but I don’t think they were popular since they aren’t on the menu anymore. Never tried it. I like my pancakes on the side

Love MC D’s a lot!!!

But their is nothing classic about that menu item. Never got a hotdog from MC D’s during the 10,000 times (or probably more) that I’ve visited them in Boston and Waikiki…never!!

Looks New…not “Classic”

“Classic” would be the Shammrock Shake” or do they still have that during this season??

I wondered where the “Classic” came from too …. i’m a long term diner and Maccas and i have never seen it on the menu.

“Shamrock Shake” …. never heard of it either!

Actually I found the McD burgers there so small I ended up eating the cinnamon melt more (loved it btw)…
So are you avoiding ramen now? I still look forward to those. Went to try some of those that you recommended when I was there…

Looks a bit nasty to me. In the add it says “kohi to bea”. What’s a bea?

Reply

20 ThePenguin March 3, 2009 at 3:37 pm

Looks like “kohi to pea” (コーヒーとペア), aka “pair” to me.

Reply

21 Neil March 3, 2009 at 5:14 pm

I think it comes with a coffee (pictured) and a pear as part of the “seto” for 300 yen …. will find out Friday!

Reply

22 Neil March 3, 2009 at 5:15 pm

I think it’s Pear …. not a fan if it is, will cast that to the side swiftly.

This may be a stupid question, but how can it be both “new” and “classic”?

Or is it the menu that’s new and the hot dog that is old? ;)

Reply

24 Neil March 4, 2009 at 9:41 am

Not a stupid question at all …. not sure where the classic comes from.

Ketchup on a hotdog….New Yorkers would murder you for this…Only in Japan.

Reply

26 Neil March 4, 2009 at 9:43 am

And in Australia …. it’s not a Hot Dog unless it has sauce, mustard and cheese.

Reply

your kidding about ny? i don’t know anyone that doesnt put ketchup or mustard on their hotdogs.. if your adventrous i would recommend eating a hot dog off a street vendor.. might turn out to be a finger or small mouse..
me personally i would not eat from a street vendor..

Reminds me how McDonald was used to be pronounced in Japanese “Makudonarudo”. Many find it hard to say it like the Japanese “makudonarudo”
