Motsunabe In Shinjuku

January 4, 2009 · 9 comments

After a long day of drinking and eating yesterday, which i will cover later, we finished the night off with  Motsunabe in Shinjuku (もつ鍋 博多 おっしょい山笠 新宿)

On the back of my new eating regime and on such a cold night Motsunabe really hits the spot. One again, the bulk of the decisions on what to have were removed from my jurisdiction which is probably a good thing, i ended up trying stuff i ordinarily wouldn’t have and loved it.

It was pretty cheap too considering how much we’d had, working out to about 4000 yen per head.

Nabe

Motsunabe is made from beef or pork offal. It’s prepared in a hot pot and after it’s boiled for a bit you can add all sorts to it, cabbage, mushrooms, onions, tofu and whatever else takes your fancy.

Thanks to those people that suggested foods, places to eat and even the diet of celebrities and sports stars! I can feel myself being healthier already.

If you’re in and around Shinjuku and looking for a bit to eat i suggest you give this place a go, it’s only 5 minutes walk from Shinjuku station.

I love nabe and I can even eat the nabe part of motsu nabe, but you can have the motsu. Give me Kimchi Nabe any day of the week though and I am in heaven!!

If you are ever in the Fukuoka area let me know, there are lots of famous motsu nabe places and a really good kimchi place that I would recommend over the motsu :-)

Well happy with Kimchi ET and would have to agree with you, that would be my first preference … LOVE anything with Kimchi in it!

Had it for the first time when I was in Japan. Quite the experience as I was confused what to heat up first.

Unless something new comes on the menu trips to maccas will be few and far between for me ….. for a while anyway.

looks good, but I doubt I’d try that. I’m not very adventurous when it comes to food

You going to have to start when you come to Japan Kirk! I was a pretty basic eater before i came here ….. if you don’t push yourself to try knew things it can suck at times, especially when going out as a group to restaurants.

Love kimchi nabe, but motsu … dunno man. Yours truly comes from a sort of an ethnic background, and intestines were always all over the place; on the barbecue pit, in the soup … could never get a taste for it myself. Then again, I like natto, so apparently my taste buds are fickle bastards.
