Train Grope offences are on the rise in Japan and i’ve previously written about this in november. The Groping Train behaviour has been around years and now there’s an increased desire to protect the innocent from wrongful accusation.
According to a survey conducted in Tokyo a few years back, nearly 64 percent of Japanese women in their 20s and 30s said they’ve been groped on trains, subways or at transit stations in the city. These subway gropers — who lean, rub and pinch during the remarkably crowded rush hours — are known in Japanese as “chikan.”
It seems Women Only carriages aren’t enough to combat the groping on the Japanese rail system. There’s now a portable strap available for 525 Yen, (~$5).
The strap actually provides no support whatsoever when the train stops or starts with sudden movement, it’s sole purpose is to show female passengers that your hands are busy which reduces your chance of a quick train grope.

Brilliant!
I don’t think so -_-
This is a good idea but it’s really too bad that such a product needs to exist. But I guess if you are a good guy that doesn’t chikan and don’t want to get falsely accused this would be a good option.
Hey man, a football slap on the butt is not groping!
That’s how i try to justify it
Wouldn’t it be better to focus on holding a real strap & your book instead? It might be infinitely more useful in the event of a sudden stop!
Still, very funny & wacky! And that’s one of my favorite things about life in Japan.
The trick is to shout, “Good Game!”, right when you make the slap
You better put this one on e-bay…
lol
Apparently they’ve sold out Nathan !
What will be next…I wonder..

Is there a “I’m not a chikan, but hey…if you’re on the hunt, let me know” strap?
mmmm… I think I may have to get that as I wouldn’t want people to think that I’m a groper now would we?
When do these women actually get groped? I’ve rode the trains and actively tried to see a chikan and action. They must be really good because I never catch them. I have heard stories though. This one girl I know told me the guy sitting across from her was choking off with a newspaper trying to hide himself. She said he was smiling like a retard, but then she got angry at him and said “what are you doing?” After that, he put his junk away and scurried over to the next car. I guess these women have to get assertive. But then they wouldn’t be Japanese women…….
I can’t say i’ve seen it either …. i have heard about guys getting marched up to the conductor by the girl they’ve groped … i mean, if i’m gonna grope i’d be quick to get out of there and not be walked up by a 20 yr old girl!
