Going to a different spot, Gala Yuzawa about 1.5 hrs North West from Tokyo on the Shinkansen, up and back with a days ski pass for 8700 yen ... just had to book 5 days in advance to save about 2500 yen .. too easy. Booked the tickets before 3pm today so it worked out to 8700 yen return from Tokyo station with a full days pass included. Will definitely have a look at your suggestion though.
