Teppachi Steak House – Yakiniku

Last nights Nomikai with the guys from work was great. We went to `Teppachi` next to Hon-Atsugi station, a steak restaurant that`s been open for about 2 weeks. One of the guys from work grabbed the flyer from a girl near the station during the week, needless to say she was pretty cute and a major factor affecting out choice of  venue. that and it was roughly 30 bucks for all you can eat plus and extra 20 or so for all you can drink.

All up 10 of us ate and drank like kings for a few hours, fratenising with the cute staff was also at a frenetic pace after a few of the guys loosened up. The purpose of the night was to celebrate my first 12 months in Japan and that we did as we pushed through most of the menu, both food and drink wise.

The food was sensational, Aussie Beef being one of the more popular dishes, that along with the usual tounge, pork and 30 or so other variations of food that once walked through greener pastures.  The king sized Ebi (Prawn) were the highlight for me.

Once the food was done the always predictable second party at a local hostess bar was suggested. Who am i to break tradition i ask, off we went with a spring in our step,  always mindful of the last Nomikai where my total spend for the night was a little higher than planned.

The whole hostess bar is a strange concept, it`s not like the equivalent scruffy places back home or any other country i`ve visited for that matter. The concept is simple, you pay for the time you`re there and the drinks are served by beautiful Japanese girls dressed to the 9`s, and yes they do stay dressed. Each punter going in the place has a girl assigned to them to pour drinks, chat and play host as the name suggests. The girls are rotated every 20 or so minutes so if you dip out with a less than personable girl the first time you only have to endure it for a shorlt time. It costs anywhere upwards of the equivalent of $50 per hour and the drinks are never ending. Unfortunately for me very few of these places serve beer, it`s mostly whisky and water or just straight whisky…. plenty of it, i`m usually ready for a shift from beer by the time we hit one of thee places.  After and hour in there, plenty of practice speaking Japanese to the girls who hosted me, or in other words Nampa, the last train was nearing.

The guys were setting things up for the next party when the tough call to leave was made. Unfortunately for one of the guys in our party he got out of the blocks a little early with the grog and had a few issues with keeping it in, both before and during the train ride home. For fear of falling asleep i talked to other punters on the train all the way home, i then woke my buddy at my stop and gave him the heads up he was 4 minutes from his. Unfortunately for him he repeated the same mistake as i and nodded off, back down the line for him and he had the pleasure of fixing up a $200+ cab ride when he finally woke and  righted himself. A belter of a night had by all, can`t wait for the next one!
