Thank God For The Meat Guy

January 9, 2008 · 14 comments

There`s no problem getting decent meat in Japan and certainly no problem finding decent restaurants to eat in but when you feel like some meat and foods from back home it proves a little harder – enter The Meat Guy

10 years ago with a starting capital of USD$1000 The Meat Guy started bringing in meat and foods foreigners craved while in Japan and he was welcomed with open arms. The Meat Guy is a whole lot more than just a few meats these days, he brings in a wealth of options and he`s now incorporated in a Japanese company so he`s here to stay. The projected figures back in 2005 were USD$1.5 million so i’d say that was a pretty good investment he made back in 1997.

Whether you want meat for “yakiniku”, hard to get lamb, or Western-style cuts of steak The Meat Guy is the place to go. Delivery is quick too, place an order on the internet and expect to see it on your doorstep, C.O.D in only a few days time.

I`m yet to use the services of The Meat Guy but a few Friends from work have and say its every bit of what you expect. First purchase for me will include the Vili`s Pies and Sausage Rolls, add a convectional microwave from Yodobashi and it`s an expensive reminder of food from back home but one i`m more than willing to pay for.

Reading about success stories like this – foreign run business owners in Japan, very inspiring and even a bit motivational – certainly gets my gears spinning.

I think the same Nathan, something so simple yet such a valuable service foreginers have no issue paying a premium for. Gets the mind thinking.

Finally! Great post for me.
I’ve been buying those junky sausages from Hanamasa till now. The first pack of sausages I bought at Hanamasa was “made in China”. I got rid of those quick smart. You need to be choosy to find the locally made ones there. I’ll be using the meat guy when the BBQ comes back out in the spring.
Thanks again Neil.

I’ve ordered steaks and sausages from “The Meat Guy” several times now. The orders usually shows up to our place in rural Chiba-ken within 3 days. His spicy homemade sausages (item name: Meat Guy Bangers Spicy) are awesome, as are the sirloins. Nice, thick steaks! Can’t beat the price either. Highly recommended.

Highly recommended. And he has a great sense of humor. He also has some stuff for vegetarians.

I would definitely look at Nakasei (http://www.naka-sei.com/english) near Denen Chofu. Guy that runs it got his masters in meat science from CSU, and dry ages Japanese beef and pork. As they dry-age the whole animal, you can order any cut you want, with the caveat that if it is not in the shop they need some advance heads up.
