The Lock Up In Ikebukuro

September 21, 2008 · 6 comments

A week or so ago i went with a few other gaijin to the Lock Up in Ikebukuro, a themed Izakaya restaurant.

I can take or leave Izakaya restaurants but they seem to be the obvious choice when getting a group of punters together for an all you can eat and drink session.

I’d only met 2 of the other 7 before the evening – Billy and JT and had only a brief read through the musings of the others in the weeks leading up to the night – the others being, Tokyo Cowgirl Foreign Salaryman Green Eyed Geisha The Penguin and last but not least Fleur Aubergine

Throwing 8 people together with really the only thing in common, being we are all foreigners living in Japan, could end up a few ways, but testament to all those in attendance a great night was had. I guess the all you can eat and drink for 2 hrs for about $35 helps everyone loosen things up.

I won’t bang on about ther personalities of the others but if you get the chance please visit their sites as they all have intersting things to say about life in Japan.

I didn’t take a camera but JT was sober enough at the time to snap this one off during the “show” part of the evening … i wish he’d got one of Officer Naughty too.

Lock Up

After a few hours in the restaurant and my fair share of grog we upped and left and hit a few other places in Ikebukuro, resulting in various stages of intoxication.

I’d definitely suggest getting into the Lock Up at some stage, if nothing else for the great food and drink package.

The address is Ikebukuro Maru Bldg., 5F, 1-29-1 Higashi-ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo, which is opposite Tokyo Hands and you can give them a bell on 03-5960-6755

Who’s that mild-mannered guy in the glasses next to you, Neil? I don’t remember that guy being there…

LOL, I don’t remember that guy being as big as he looks in that photo… Actually, there’s a lot I don’t remember about that night, but there’s enough I do remember to want to do it again. :)

Ha! I went in there about 6 years ago, I bet it’s still exactly the same. It was the largest collection of underage drinkers I had ever seen under one roof. Not a bad place, but weird theme – the prison/horror mix. Finding my way back from the toilet sucked.

How very true, the place is a maze and after a few beers getting around was pretty confusing.
