Tokyo CGM Night III

March 16, 2009 · 29 comments

Friday night saw me get along to the Tokyo CMG (Consumer Generated Media) .. or dudes involved in web based stuff in Japan …. night hosted by Danny and Andrew.

The night has evolved since it’s first run back in October and looks like it’s only going to get bigger and better.

As always there were lots of interesting people to meet, some new faces and some i’d met before.

Tokyo CGM

On the left of me we have Chris Gaunt and to the right Jerome Sadou.

Tokyo CGM

One of the giveaways at the door for the night, an electronic business card exchange device named “Poken”

Tokyo CGM

Hector Garcia who’s site Kirainet is the most viewed blog about Japan in Spain

Tokyo CGM

After some initial confusion as to the ordering process all was cleared up with a few signs.

Tokyo CGM

Japan Youtuber TkyoSam chatting to fellow Youtuber Applemilk

Tokyo CGM

Ken Brady in focus and Ken Lee to his left.

Tokyo CGM

Michael Keferl from CScout Japan in discussion with Kynapple

Tokyo CGM

And lastly David Shackelford partially obscurred by the glass.

Tokyo CGM

….. and that would be me under there posing for a few photos.

Tokyo CGM

The night was held at Cafe Ratia in Harajuku and had a turn out of about 200 … looking forward to the next one already.

Somehow Rick, Joseph and Shane all managed to escape my camera … maybe next time they won’t be so lucky.

Darth vader has a big head! ^^. Did you manage to get any freebies? I left early for ramen. Missed out on the arm wrestling matches.

No, left myself and ended up getting Jangara Ramen …. was fantastic as always. Just beat the storm so must have been just before 11 i think.

I didn’t escape your camera completely – I think that’s me holding the glass that’s partially obscuring David Shackelford…

It was great to meet you Neil and I hope to run into you again soon!

Looks like a great event. Hope to get there next time if the numbers don’t get so high that a limit is imposed. It’s going to get hard to find good venues as the numbers rise. Great to see so many people networking. Nice write-up.

Agreed, finding somewhere suitable for 200 is a stretch, any more than that and it gets too big i think.

I love reading articles on this event and viewing pictures. It’s one of those events I would love to attend if I was living in Japan. I hope it’s not too large by the time I get there haha. It’s great to see the faces behind such great groups of blogs!

It is a good fun event ….. there’s often a few catch ups in between with smaller groups too which have been fun.

Concerning CGM Night it always looks to me that 50% of Tokyo’s foreigners attending this event. Where are the Japanese?

Reply

26 Neil March 19, 2009 at 9:38 am

There are a few Japanese there … sometimes more than others. There’s also some events held that pretty much cater just for Japanese whereas this one was originally intended to be gaijin bloggers.

its seems like a nice get together for gaijin bloggers. i think a bigger untalked about problem is gaijin bloggers who basically take content from japanese language blogs or websites and pass it off as their own. Kinda like whatjapanthinks is just translation of japanese surveys

There`s always a fine line between blatant plagiarism and putting your own spin on someone elses news.
