JR Yamanote Line - Ikebukuro 3G iPhone In Japan On July 11 Bikini Or Jeans? Snowboarding Japan - Kawaba Ski Resort Photo Hunt - Free, Muriyou

I guess this is as off topic as it gets but it’s actually the reason why this site exists today and how i got into the whole website, blog, internet thing as a hobby so you may choose to read on, or you may just want to close the browser and come back soon for the next installment on the JR Yamanote Line - Harajuku … up to you.

What’s a Babymoon ? and What’s my interest in it you’re probably wondering. First i’ll once again rely on wikipedia for the explanation.

A Babymoon is a vacation taken by a couple that is expecting a baby in order to allow the couple to enjoy a final trip together before the many sleepless nights that usually accompany a newborn baby.

Babymoons are usually take place at a resort that offers appropriate services like prenatal massage.

The term Babymoon comes from the more traditional term honeymoon, which is a vacation taken by a newlywed couple after their wedding ceremony.

Babymoon

The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo is offering a Babymoon and you can check the site for all the details, the view is outstanding so regardless of the occasion i’m keen to get in and stay there one night.

Back in mid 2006 while living in Melbourne i was watching CNN and they mentioned the term Babymoon … it wasn’t all that new back then but it was getting some legs. I’m not sure exactly why but i decided to buy the domain name … the dot com was unavailable but the Australian dot com dot au was so i’d just bought my first domain name.

Fuelled by boredom at times, and 10 months in a hotel room with very little english TV, i started to look into how i could do something with Babymoon.

Fast forward almost 2 years and a heap of internet / website experience later and i’ve finally got it working after a few iterations too i might add.

A few weeks ago i bought some directory software and populated it with all the Babymoon locations i’d found back in the hotel room days which was easier than i though, and i learnt a heap about databases and directories so it was a win win once again.

The site itself is nothing flash but it does what it’s supposed to do, it cost me very little to set-up and most importantly requires very little effort on a day to day basis. By far the best part for me is it certainly pays for itself and then some. If you know anyone whose pregant or has a business that can be included then please send the site on to them.

Lastly, if i still have your attention, my online buddy and long time visitor of this site Mike has a great competition running at the moment. Mike’s trying to get some extra exposure on his blog where he regularly does blog reviews among other topics and is using a competition to do so. There’s several ways to enter so get on over and check it out, i for one would be very happy to pick up one of the Macbook Airs he has on offer!

Thanks for the plug Neil :) Good luck to ya!

As for “Babymoon”…that really is something new to me. I hope that hotels here in Los Angeles would have something like that in the near future ;)

I wish I’d known about babymoons before we had our first child. Isn’t there something similar for parents after a baby is born? Perhaps a package that includes someone to stay with your child while you go away? If not, there should be!

Good luck with the website, Neil. It’s a unique site and, unlike most directories, is actually useful for people searching for Babymoon locations! I’m not sure quite how popular the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo would be at 100,000 yen a night, though. ;)

Never heard of Babymoons before, but I like the concept, it’s probably something I would want to do.

One thing i realized when visiting the website is that the search function could be improved. I did a search for “Tokyo” and found the Ritz-Carlton hotel, but then I did a search for “Japan” and didn’t find anything at all. I don’t know if it matters though, since you can choose your location on the front page, but it was just something I realized :)

Anyway, good luck with the website, if it’s still there in like at least 5 years from now, I might use it :P

No babies for me, but I know a couple who’d love the idea once they get properly knocked up. Well, when she does, anyway.

I’d go on one. but if you can really afford to take a Babymoon, maybe you can afford a baby nurse so you can sleep late!

Neil, got stumbleupon?

Amazing! This is the first I heard about this. To think that the Tokyo hotels should begin offering babymoons is even more interesting; I would have expected this to begin in countried where they were having more babies…
