UEMATSU HIDEMI

Who is uematsu hidemi? – I won’t lie, i haven’t listened to much J-Pop since living in Japan, not that i listened to it prior to moving but you know what i mean.

So when i saw a “reader” named Uematsu Hidemi 上松秀実 leave a comment here one day i thought i’d follow it up and see what she’s all about.

Hidemi

It turns out the said lady in question is an up and coming Japanese singer with a very catchy first single “Dear My Friends

Her second single Jidai is released on the 4th of March and i might even go and check it out.

Jonas and Chris you’re the J-Pop fans … have you heard of this girl? …. and am i even right in assuming this is J-Pop?

Check out the Uematsu Hidemi official site if you want to see and bit more of what she’s about.

Hey Neil thanks for giving her some coverage. If she keeps churning out the nice tunes, she should be great.

I’m a pretty big Jpop fan myself ^^. I tend to get hooked on the energy in the songs more than anything – stuff like Morning Musume can really brighten up your day. Some people can’t stand them mind ^^;. I tend to like jrock a little more though. Stuff like Ulfuls and Bump of Chicken.

Dear My Friends sounded good though! Nice and mellow. If you’re interested, you can find a few songs that I’ve liked recently here:

I like this one, although the Dear Friends song is a little to hip hop for an old fogey like me, I really like the second single Jidai. She is one to watch for. Hopefully iTunes US will carry her music.

Hey Neil, I’ve not heard of her before. She has a unique voice, I kinda like it. I guess this would go under the R&B genre. The definition of J-Pop isn’t always clear, but usually it refers to the girl/boy bands like Morning Musume and artists such as Ayumi Hamasaki. Otherwise you can label things like at home, such as Rock, Metal, R&B, Punk etc.

There’s some great music to be found in Japan, but as with any country, you have to wade through a lot of rubbish too ^^

Not bad! Like you, Neil, I’m not so hip to the J-Pop apart from stuff I’ve picked up on due to osmosis like that darn song by Arashi – “Happiness”. This gal sounds a bit more R&B to me, too, and tolerable. Thanks for the tip!

May I suggest Miki Douzan’s Lifetime Respect? RSP did a cover of it within the past few years. Both versions are terrific reggae-inspired pop.

Nice find Neil! I’ll definitely keep an eye on her. Her voice is cool, might be influenced by Christina Aguilera… or maybe it’s just her accent.

The first song had a very nice Indie sound to it, and I liked it. She has a great voice.

Did you go check out her live, mate? Wasn’t it this past week? Unemployment is making all my days blur together. That and the alcohol.

I’ve only heard J-pop from videogames and whatnot. I like the clips though.
