Vietnamese Festival

This week it was the Vietnamese communities turn to take over a section of Yoyogi Park with their culture. It only dawned on me on my way there i’d be able to get some rice paper rolls, a favourite from back home, those along with some 333 beers …. or as i found out, “Bababa” in Vietnamese.

It was another cracking warm day and living pretty close to the park it’s just as easy to walk as it is to get to the station, catch the train one stop then walk the rest.

Unfortunately i was over enthusiastic Saturday morning and stuffed the settings on my video camera so this week it’s still shots only, some of them came out a treat.

Music was plentiful at this festival and the beating of the drums got my attention.

Massive crowds at this festival, much bigger than last weeks Sri Lanka Festival

A “How-To” cooking session on Vietnamese food … i’ll just stick with take-away thanks.

Ojiisan decided it was too hot so he’d use the Vietnamese Airlines display for a seat.

Looks like a nice little festival.

You took those stills with your video camera? Damn beautiful! The watermelon carving shots are particularly amazing.

I definitely will get myself one of those cameras this fall.

Yeh, took them with the Video, they came out a treat full size, they lose a lot of quality when i reduce them for the site …. very happy with them though.

I saw the planning for this going down but was not able to attend. I really wanted to go as I have a friend here in Tokyo from Vietnam. Looks like it was a wonderful celebration. Thanks you so much for posting all the great photos. It feels like I was actually there now.

Is this made by the Vietnamese community in Japan? If so, that’s pretty awesome. “Banh Mi” aka the Vietnamese version of Subway is the best. I love those and they’re so much better for you than Subway. ^^

Yes, i’d say it was made by the Vietnamese Community in Japan.

Hmm..Interesting. I’m a Vietnamese living in the States and studying Japanese (odd combo indeed). But anyway, never knew there was a negligible Vietnamese presence in Japan. This stuff sure makes the Viet crowd in Cali jealous. The only eye sore I see is the Communist flag there. No decent Vietnamese who has left the country would hang such atrocity instead of the pre-civil war flag. But anyway, that is really neat stuff. Can’t wail til I show up in Japan.

Ja ne!

Are there a lot of Vietnamese restaurants near where you lived?

Not so many .. maybe there’s a few in Shinjuku. I know there’s a good one in Yoyogi Uehara and i keep meaning to get back there.
