Worlds Smallest Beer

April 20, 2009 · 28 comments

Believe me when i say i`ve consumed a lot of beer, in a lot of countries over the past 15 yrs, and this is by far the smallest can of beer i`ve ever seen.

Worlds Smallest Beer

While i was picking up some supplies last week i saw old mate restocking the shelves with these little  one sip wonders.

Let`s put it into perspective. This is the size i usually drink, 500 ml cans that sell for about 260 yen depending on the flavour.

Worlds Smallest Beer

Next member of the beer family in Japan is the 350 ml can, i drink these on the train on the way home, it`s the biggest they sell … for about 200 yen from the convenience store.

Weighing in at 250 ml and at a cost of 170 yen is this next little fella …… sure it tastes the same, I`ve just never had cause to buy such a small can of beer.

Worlds Smallest Beer

Last up ”standing on the scales” at a measly 100 ml is junior, and possibly the Worlds Smallest Beer …. costing a single silver coin, 100 yen.

Worlds Smallest Beer

I don`t know who drinks these beers but they certainly get moved off the shelves.

For comparison purposes here it is next to the big daddy of beers in Japan.

Worlds Smallest Beer

If you still can`t appreciate how small it is …. then up against the iPhone might help.

Worlds Smallest Beer

Economically the 500 ml can is the undisputed choice of champions, but if you`re down to your last few bob this summer then one of the smaller guys might be your speed.

Post one home to me Neil. That can would be perfect for the pop a can next to your old fella “for scale” when taking a pic to add to a particular dating website. Just gotta be sure to turn the lable a little to ensure the 125ml is neatly tucked away to complete the illusion….watch the mail roll in.

I vaguely recall hearing they were developed as a product for female beer drinkers…

Most of the girls i know are well capable of slugging down beers every bit as big as the blokes ….. interesting theory though.

Well obviously, it’s for the kiddie beer-drinker crowd… For school lunches and such.

Love it mate

In Hong Kong we come across quite a few big cans of Asahi; pretty sure I’ve seen litre and two litre varities flying around the shelves – maybe a novelty for the international market?

Maybe mate, don’t recall seeing any that big here.

I have seen those cans also. They have an interesting shape to them.

I can see the 135ml being used as a nightcapper. Enough dose to maybe barely put the mind to ease.

Maybe that’s where i’m going wrong, i use the 500 ml cans for that, several of them too. :)

good god, what r they going to think of next. japan seems to have every idea covered. Plus, I suspect it’s a great money maker too, I’m sure it costs more in total when you buy a lot of them!

You haven’t been to the states Neil, as we have them here. Both for beer and for sodas. Why would someone make a can of beer that small is beyond me. You have to drink 3 and a tad of them just to have a tall boy. (16oz)

I have been there several times, mainly for work …. just guess i’ve just never noticed them, then again i don’t really ever recall going into a shop where i could buy a can of drink, alcohol or otherwise!

in the states they have the 250 mil size.
they are usually used for beer backs or for oyster shooters in the southern parts of the u.s.

It’s funny, I did a similar story on my blog last year.

Someone suggested after that they might be to put on graves.

Imagine how easy it would’ve been to smuggle these on your person into the MCG to watch the cricket. Also would’ve been convenient for my many failed attempts at 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes. They remind me of the cans of nuts you can get out of those twisy dispensers that sit on beers through EU. Love it Duck.

Sit on top of bars, not beers, I actually meant.

You know this one is targeted purely to those in society who love to repeat ‘Kawaii’ while using/holding/cuddling the items.

sway,

im in the states, i have some Friends that do snuggle items; i must agree that this beer would have to be one of those items. and the way that it looks, i may say its cute as well..

I am still taken back by how small the beer cans are here sometimes.

It was actually terrible to drink a beer so small, not that it lasted long.

The Drunken Bastard would not have this. Do you realize that the number of cans to trips to the bathroom ratio would become way out of hand. Currently two cans to 1 bathroom trip is high enough.

First, imaginge you are the size of the average Asian, then price out going on an all-out bender, now who has the advantage?
