Yakuza Moon – Memoirs of a Gangsters Daughter by Shoko Tendo caught my eye, when i was looking for something to read on my way to Ireland a few weeks ago … and i’m glad it did.
Yakuza Moon is a very interesting read indeed, giving a fascinating insight into many facets of Japanese life including – the Yakuza, being a daughter of a member of the Yakuza and the life of a Hostess in Japan.
After Living in Japan for the last few years i was able to appreciate some of the finer points that anyone that’s never lived here might overlook, but whatever your situation is, if you have any interest at all in Japan i’d recommend this as a good read.
It’s not for the fainthearted and at times you forget how young she is when she’s describing situations she’s been though, situations you wouldn’t wish on anyone.

It’s only about 180 pages long, but for me to read a book front to back in 2 sittings is saying something. You can get it here from my Amazon store for about $15 if you’re so inclined.
I don’t rate a book on how well it’s written, and this book is probably at the lower end if i did, but it is an account of someones life and i found it interesting enough to recommend. If you want great grammar and a thrilling build up then go elsewhere.

What an interesting find! I don’t read a lot of books but this might be a story I’ll really like, and it’s not thick as a bible either. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll go get my own copy as soon as I can!
Sounds pretty interesting and while I’m not in to tattoos she does looks pretty hot!
I wonder if she has any tattoos on her front??? hmmmm…
Might make a good movie.
was it translated from japanese? she’s kinda cute in that ‘don’t f@#k with me or I’ll kick your ass” kind of way..
Yes it was which makes it a bit strange at times …. but no worries for the most part.
I was riding the train between Osaka and Kyoto once and saw a young girl (late teens to early twenties) who was wearing long sleeves, but one had slid down to show that she had tattoos all the day down to her wrist (on her arms anyway). I wondered if it was likely that she was a yakuza’s Girlfriend or daughter. She was just so young, but in Japan you really don’t have those tattoos without a reason!
Hmm… sounds like an interesting book, I’ll have to check it out.
Sounds like an interesting book, but those tattoos are a bit scary!
I live smak dab in a neighborhood swarming with em’. I had some brawls a few years back and they threatened my boss ( I was working for another school at the time) and said they would burn her school down if she didn’t fire me.
I saved her the trouble and quit
4 years later and we have a kind of peace now. Hiroshima is where most believe the modern version was born and while I don’t want to live where they make their living (the cities) I don’t mind living near them. It is kind of peaceful (The smart dog doesn’t shit in his own yard)

Those are some serious tattoos right there! wow!
Wow, is that permanent tattoo?
Am I the only one who thinks she is a looker?
No, i think she goes alright too.
SOrry to raise this post from the dead. Would just like to say that face and even tattoo-wise, she does it for me…but woman needs to eat more! That pic from the rear…it’s like two sticks leaned up against a broom. EAT, woman!
No problems raising things from the dead JT … agree, she could do with a damn good feed to fatten her up a bit.
it was awesome book!,i felt sorry for shoko for all things happen before, when i read the book,i felt so sad..how come there is a very cruel world there…but i really admire shoko,i really proud with what she have been done. The message that i cant take from this book is,never give up!!!no matter how hard and how cruel this life,we have to survive….besides shoko is so cute and pretty!!!i like it..thanks shoko for inspiring my life!!!
